August Moon Dinner 2014

Golden Harvest Restaurant, Saturday 6 September 2014
By Gordon Wong

The annual August Moon dinner was held once again at Golden Harvest Restaurant on the evening of 6 September. The August Moon celebrates the Mid Autumn Festival in the China (Northern Hemisphere Autumn) and has been anglicised as August simply because it’s in the middle of the 8th month of the Chinese Lunar year which always confusingly falls within September.
The dinner serves as a celebration as well as a fund raiser for OSCA. This year 112 diners attended, marginally less than in previous years, but the sale of raffle tickets and auctioning of Peking Duck vouchers (donated by Golden Harvest Restaurant) raised $1000.

The evening began with a stirling performance from our young lion dancers in the Harvest Court Mall outside the restaurant. A few of the performers were taking part for the first time. The performance was followed by a welcoming speech from our president Linus Chin after which the dinner was served interrupted by raffles.
Thanks to James Chin, Phillip Shum, Hector Wong and the “membership and socials” team who organise dinners and sell tickets by making lots of phone calls with such great efficiency that we tend to take them for granted.
