Children's Christmas Picnic 2013

30 November 2014, Guthrie Pavilion
By Gordon Wong

30 children and nearly as many adults gathered for early Christmas celebrations on Saturday 30th November, 2013 at the Guthrie Pavilion, Bayfield High School. Barbecued sausages and patties were cooked by Keith Kelsall, Matthew Wong, Michael Hall and a couple of others, with Ruth Kelsall serving and providing chocolate cake.

The majority of the children had played miniball at the South Island Chinese Basketball tournament, but there were also a few new comers and even younger children. Apart from eating lots of food, the kids had a nice chaotic time running around the venue, catching up and making new friends.

After the “traditional” tug of war in glorious sunshine, the kids returned to the pavilion for the much anticipated visit by Santa (Sin Phua for the third year in succession). Before passing out each present, Santa asked each child what they are good at and apparently we have a lot of good runners.

Thanks to Catharine Kan for suggesting and booking the venue, Ruth and Keith Kelsall for their hard work preparing food and providing a barbecue, Andrina Donn for providing the red sack, Phil Shum for ordering the sausages and patties and Gillian Wong for the great photos.

See you next Christmas.
