DCC Dragon Parade 2010

Saturday February 27 2010

The OSCA primary school kids along with smiling parents took part in the Dragon Parade, the closing event of a week of Chinese New Year celebrations organised by the Dunedin City Council.  The parade contained 4 groups, headed by 2 dragons.  We carried two OSCA flags, with kids and parents walking in very loose fashion from the Octagon to the Chinese Garden.  The procession appeared to get larger as spectators followed and even joined in, something akin to a New Orleans mardi gras.

Upon arrival at the Chinese Garden, Adrian Thein managed/conducted the dance, swordsmanship and musical acts and the lighting of fireworks to close the celebrations.

We were all full of smiles and I hope the crowd enjoyed the occasion as much as we did.

Thanks to the Kelsall, Hall, Lau, Thein Pye, Brennan/Kaan, Sleeman/Don and Wong families for participating.
