This was celebrated by launching the book “Lan Yuan – a Garden of Distant Longing” as well as the opening of the photo exhibition of Yu Yuan – our sister garden.
The Director Zang Ling and five other delegates from Shanghai Yu Garden were in attendance as well as His Worship the Mayor, Dave Cull, and Mr Chu Yanli, Vice Consul-General from the Christchurch Consulate of the People’s Republic of China. Over 100 people attended the functions.
The Otago & Southland Chinese Association Youth Group were involved in serving the cocktail food to the guests and manning the beverage station. The youth group enjoyed the experience. Many thanks to Delvin & Lisa Chin who also assisted us.

Saturday 14th December, 2013 saw the awesome foursome descend on the Chinese Gardens pond to “wade” a war against the thriving ninja weed. It is a particularly vigilant strain that grows well, however with Malcolm accounting for every bucket it was no match for the foursome. Kind thanks to Malcolm Wong, Keith, Tim and Louis. |
